Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) can turn your life upside down in an instant. When you’re involved in one, understanding how MVA claims work is crucial. It helps you navigate the process smoothly and get the support you need for recovery and compensation. I want to walk you through the key steps of making a claim, what to expect, and how services like therapeutic care can support your healing journey.

Understanding the Impact of an MVA

You may feel fine immediately after an accident, but discomfort or movement problems can appear later. As the initial stress of the accident settles, you might begin to notice stiffness, headaches, muscle tension, soreness, or reduced mobility over the following hours or days. Pay attention to any new or worsening symptoms and seek medical care when needed.

At Holistic Mobility, we provide remedial massage therapy for people recovering from motor vehicle accidents in Edmonton. Our goal is to help you manage pain, improve your movement, and feel supported throughout your recovery.

Starting Your MVA Claim at Holistic Mobility

Once you’ve taken care of immediate needs, the next step is to report the accident to your insurance company. Your insurance company will provide you with a claim number and connect you with an adjustor. Your adjuster can explain what coverage is available and whether your treatment needs to be approved before it begins.

What Do You Need to Book?

Once you have opened an MVA claim, you can contact us to begin the booking process. We will ask you to complete our MVA Evaluation Form and provide:

  • Your MVA claim number

  • Your insurance company

  • Your adjuster’s name and contact information

  • Information about the accident

  • Your current symptoms

  • Your direct-invoicing preference

A claim number allows us to begin setting up your file, but it does not automatically guarantee coverage or direct invoicing. We will confirm the necessary treatment and billing details with your adjuster.

For treatment outside an MVA claim, our direct billing guide covers the extended health providers we work with.

How Massage Therapy Can Support Your Recovery

Recovering from an MVA often involves more than just rest. You may need physiotherapy, chiropractic care, or other treatment alongside massage therapy to regain mobility and reduce pain. We build recovery plans around where you actually are, and we work alongside the rest of your care team rather than in place of it.

We focus on improving movement and managing pain. Keeping your treatment records and submitting them to your insurer also helps support your claim.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy may help with:

  • Muscle tension and soreness

  • Neck, shoulder, and back discomfort

  • Reduced mobility or stiffness

  • Tension-related headaches

  • Muscle guarding after an accident

  • Returning to comfortable movement

  • Complementing the care you receive from your physician, physiotherapist, chiropractor, or other healthcare providers

What Is Section B?

Section B is the accident-benefits portion of an Alberta automobile insurance policy. It may provide coverage for eligible treatment following a motor vehicle accident. Every claim is different. Coverage may depend on your injuries, treatment plan, available extended health benefits, and the requirements of your auto insurer.

In some cases, extended health benefits must be used first. The remaining eligible balance may then be submitted to the auto insurer. In other cases, approved treatments may be invoiced directly to the auto insurer. Your adjuster can confirm the coverage and billing requirements that apply to your claim.

Does Holistic Mobility Direct-Bill Auto Insurers?

Holistic Mobility can invoice auto insurers directly for eligible and authorized MVA treatments. Before we set up direct invoicing, we confirm important information with your insurance adjuster, including:

  • Your claim and adjuster information

  • The treatments you have been approved for

  • The number and length of approved appointments

  • Billing instructions

  • Treatment limits and deadlines

  • Whether extended health benefits must be used first

We may also request a copy of your AB-2 treatment plan when applicable. If direct invoicing has not been arranged before your first appointment, you may need to pay for the treatment and submit your receipt to the insurer yourself.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first appointment begins with a conversation about the accident, your symptoms, and how you are currently feeling and moving. Mitchell Anderson, who has four years of experience working with motor vehicle accident claims, will tailor the treatment to your needs and comfort level. Early appointments may use gentler techniques, with treatment progressing as your body responds.

You are always encouraged to communicate about pressure, positioning, and comfort during your appointment.
